hey team, was just wondering how the progress is going-still waiting on my copy! asked by Anonymous

Hey there, we never got notified about this message so this might be extremely late! Very, very sorry. But good news - we’re all done! The zines look beautiful and will be shipped very shortly! We’ve got everything set, just need to plan a trip to the post office.

A thousand apologies for the holdup. But we’re finally all set! Printed and ready to go!

DONE

ZINE IS PRINTED AND READY TO SHIP, READY TO SHIP, READY TO SHIP! IT TOOK SO LONG AND WE SUCK, BUT IT’S READY!

READY TO SHIP!

ALL DONE!

SPREAD THE NEWS!

Off to the printers

We are finished, finished, finished the layout and officially just have to print and ship. We should be printing (or copying, as the case may be: we are a zine, after all) this week and we’ll ship right after that.

Again: the hard part is over! All thanks to V, our designer. Round of applause!

Whoo! Will update again when printed!

Getting Down to Business

Hi There Folks,

just a quick update from the front lines: tomorrow we (the editors, or, more accurately, just the design editor*) will be putting the finishing touches on the first issue. We ran into a few stumbling blocks a while ago, but not anything THE BRIGHTON POST cannot overcome!

We hope to be FINISHED the issue tomorrow night, and will be ready to ship the issues by early August.

Thank you for your patience! We apologize for the delay; it’s our first time working on a project like this, and there is a lot to be learned!

soon

Yep, we missed our deadline. But we are almost done! Next week pretty much for sure, we’ll be done and ready to print.

Patience! It will be worth it!

getting it together

The layout design is going better than I hoped, and it looks like we’ll be right on time with a July 1 publication. I finalized the order the pieces are going to go in, and how the pages will all fit together (well, V did it, actually) and now it’s all about making it look nice.

Selected peoples: please send in bios, they’re awesome so far.

I will keep updating on our slow and steady pogress!

and the selection process begins

I’ve glanced at each submission at least once when it was first received, and now I’m beginning the process of more carefully considering submissions for publication. We’ve received a lot of good stuff - so far, mostly poetry, some artwork, some fiction, some photography.

All of it is good, so what’s really driving the selection process is how well each submission fits the theme of “pandemonium.” The theme is open to interpretation, but there are quite a few submissions that just don’t seem to fit at all, no matter how much of a stretch I allow them. So it seems that’s going to be the deciding factor.

Once again, we’ll let everyone know by Tuesday. Get excited! I certainly am.

new “ask” feature

In addition to emailing thebrightonpost@gmail.com with any questions, we now also have an “ask a question” feature at the bottom of a page. If there is a common question or something we’d like to answer publicly (so more people can know the answer), we can answer it right here.

We’ve gotten some great submissions already, keep it up!

Submission Guidelines for THE BRIGHTON POST

Issue 1: PANDEMONIUM will be coming out at the end of the month. THE BRIGHTON POST is a literary/arts zine published from Brighton, MA. We are seeking talented writers and artists of all kinds to contribute. THE BRIGHTON POST will feature only the best submissions in the areas of short fiction, nonfiction, poetry, artwork, and photography.

  • Short fiction: No longer than 1000 words. Poetry: No more than 50 lines.
  • Artwork: Please send high quality scans, and keep in mind we will be printing in black and white. We may re-size the image to fit the layout.
  • Photographs: Photographs are awesome, send them in, but again, note we will print in black and white. We may re-size the image to fit the layout.
  • This month’s theme is PANDEMONIUM. Your submission must in some way suit the theme, though the theme is very open to interpretation.

Submit to thebrightonpost@gmail.com

What’s in it for you? All contributors will receive one free copy of the zine. As for why you should do it in the first place, we think it’s cool to hold in your hands a physical copy of a little book in which your work has been published. We’re going to work hard to make this good. We can’t wait to see your work!

The deadline for submissions is MONDAY, JUNE 14!
